CNA/NAC - Certified Nursing Assistant

This is a 3 weeks class that educates students in aiding or performing the activities of daily living (ADL) for the residents/patients/clients. ADL are activities such as grooming, bathing, toileting, and feeding. After successfully completing the course, one challenges the State exam and this leads to eventual certification as a nurse assistant by the State. Various employers, such as Adult Family Homes, Assisted Living Homes, Nursing Homes, Outpatient Clinics, Hospital etc, employ CNA. Also, most LPN-RN and RN programs require the applicant to have some experience as a CNA.

Core Basic Training (Modified FOC) (62hrs)

Core Basic Training (Formally known as Modified Fundamental of Caregiving) is an enhanced version of Modified Fundamentals of Caregiving, teaching a LTC worker the skills and knowledge needed to provide basic care to a client. With the increase in training hours, more time is allotted for:
• Skills practice.
• Augmenting or adding additional materials, student activities, videos, or guest speaker.
• Preparation for the home care aide certification exam.

Nurse Delegation (9hrs)

A Self Study Course
This course may be used towards 9 hours of your yearly continuing education credits.

Prepares you to accept nurse-delegated tasks, tasks previously only to be performed by a licensed person. CORE includes your role as a caregiver performing a delegated task, the role of the Registered Nurse Delegator, plus tasks that can be delegated including medication administration. Please note that it is a DSHS requirement that this course is only offered in English. Interpreters cannot assist with testing. ESL dictionaries can be used. You do not need to repeat the course to continue to be qualified to be delegated.

Upon receiving enrollment information and payment, the video and course workbook will be issued and a test date scheduled. Students must complete the practice exercises in the workbook. You must have been given the training materials from us to test with us. If you have been given the materials from another source, you will be required to enroll and obtain materials from us before scheduling your test date.

Nurse Delegation - Diabetes (3hrs)

A Self Study Course
This course may be used towards 3 hours of your yearly continuing education credits. Nursing assistants must have successfully completed Nurse Delegation Core (see above) before taking this training. You do not need to repeat the course to continue to be qualified to be delegated.

Nurse Delegation for Nursing Assistants: Special Focus on Diabetes is a 3-hour course that is the first step in preparing a nursing assistant (registered or certified) to perform insulin injections as a delegated task. Please note that that it is a DSHS requirement that this course is only offered in English. Interpreters cannot assist with testing. ESL dictionaries can be used.

Dementia Specialty Caregiver (6hrs)

This course provides in depth training for caregivers on the specialized needs of individuals with dementia issues. The course includes tools and methods to help you explore and handle challenging behaviors such as physical violence and aggressive behaviors, the impact of dementia on communication, effectively assist a person with dementia with ADLs, ideas and tips for involvement in meaningful activities, differentiate between hallucinations and delusions along with intervention strategies, dementia’s effects on sexuality, medications, and supporting your well-being as a caregiver.

This course may be used to meet part of your Population Specific requirements and to meet your employment requirements if you work in an AFH or Boarding Home who serve individuals with dementia.

When used to meet your Population Specific requirements: You may obtain a certificate of completion without taking a test.

When used to meet your requirements for working in AFH or Boarding home who serve individuals with mental illness: This course is the state developed class you must have as for the required education for Managers and Caregivers. You will be required to take written test after completing the class. A passing grade is required for a certificate to be issued. Interpreters may not assist with testing.

Dementia Specialty Manager (8hrs)

This course is the State developed curriculum which is designed to provide the required education for Providers (Managers) and Caregivers who work with individuals with dementia issues in Boarding Homes and Adult Family Homes.

This course provides in depth training for caregivers on the specialized needs of individuals with dementia issues. The course includes tools and methods to help you explore and handle challenging behaviors such as physical violence and aggressive behaviors, the impact of dementia on communication, effectively assist a person with dementia with ADLs, ideas and tips for involvement in meaningful activities, differentiate between hallucinations and delusions along with intervention strategies, dementia’s effects on sexuality, medications, and supporting your well-being as a caregiver.

Mental Health Long-Term Care Worker (4hrs)

This course provides in depth training for caregivers on the specialized needs of individuals with mental health issues. The course includes a general overview about mental disorders and the four of the most common mental disorders, the provision of culturally sensitive care, respectful and non-judgmental communication, tools and methods to handle challenging behaviors, identifying de-compensation and relapse with ways to help, crisis and suicide intervention plus basic information regarding medications.

This course may be used to meet part of your Population Specific requirements and to meet your employment requirements if you work in an AFH or Boarding Home who serve individuals with mental illness.

Orientation (2hrs)

Orientation topics include the care setting, job responsibilities, the care plan and care team, client rights, documentation and reporting, mandatory reporting, and basic communication methods and techniques.

Safety (3hrs)

In this series you will learn how to better understand and ensure the safety of those in your care and themselves. This course helps meet OSHA safety requirements and fire emergency training mandates. It includes

First Aid/CPR

This is a 7-hour class. The class equips students with skills and knowledge needed to deal with emergencies before the arrival of rescue personnel. Every CNA student is required to attend a CPR/FA class prior to clinical. Knowing how to respond quickly and correctly when an accident, injury or emergency occurs can save lives. All staff should know basic first aid.

HIV/AIDS

This training shall involve concepts and procedures (standards of care) related to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, management and patient counseling for sexually transmitted disease (STD) and for prevention of HIV infection. This training, is offered not only to clinicians working within an STD clinic setting, but to all physicians, mid-level providers and laboratorians involved in the management of STDs and HIV infection. These settings include private practice, health maintenance organizations, community health centers, family planning clinics and hospital-based clinics.
